Some days Ace goes for subtle.

Some days Ace is just a little too ticked off for subtle.

The door lock gives way under the force of a particularly emphatic kick, the door slamming back against the wall.

Guess which sort of day this is?

Obviously it is a day for subtle.

This is probably why Raven snores a little more loudly, turning over in his sleep.

His dreams tonight have been very sweet.

She does waste time yelling. Instead she disappears back into the hall.


And returns with a bucket of water, which she proceeds to douse him with, thoroughly.

Raven does not shriek.

He does, however, become abruptly smaller, shaking the water from his feathers.

Then he gives Ace the gimlet eye.

From the safety of his perch. The glittery pink one.

"That, I think, is not so necessary."

"Neither was the six hour 'discussion' I just had with a senior Time Lord, ta very much. Have you ever thought of keepin' your big beak buttoned for once?" She snipes back, tossing the bucket into a corner.

Raven snorts.

It is not a very good sound, coming from a bird.

This is probably why he shifts back to person-shaped, still thoroughly waterlogged.

"That, I think, is not so much what I am for. So."

He does not seem particularly repentant.

"No, you're evidently for gettin' me into an awful lot of trouble. You know I've been trying t'avoid talkin' to her? It's not like I can easily explain the whole 'not-dead' thing, never mind what'll happen if she goes an' tells the bigwigs on Gallifrey." She rants, pacing.

Raven tilts his head, watching her out of bright black eyes.

He is not snickering.

Really.

"Possibly I will visit, then."

Beat.

"It will be entertaining."

"No. No, don't you dare." Wait, wasn't she supposed to be NOT encouraging him here?

Raven attempts to look very innocent.

"It will mostly keep you out of trouble, yes?"

This is clearly his main concern.

"Oh yes, 'cause they surely won't go lookin' for the reason a Trickster has suddenly decided to pop in, no." She reaches out to thwap him soundly over the head. "Daft idiot."

Raven calmly sticks out his tongue.

Truly he is a noble bird.

"I am very good at sneaky."

Really, Ace. You wound him.

"Oh yeah? Couldn't tell from last night's performance. 'Oh, my sister, Ace, you know Ace, she has a TARDIS, so neener', very subtle, that, in the way it utterly isn't, birdbrain."





She proves she's mature by sticking her tongue out back at him.

"Subtle was, I think, not so much the point."

Raven grins. His teeth are very sharp.

"You will both learn, now, yes?"

And, you know, Raven will learn to be sneakier next time he decides to mess with Ace.

"You really are daft, aren't you? The only thing she's goin' t'learn is come next Time War, I'm perfect f'any impossible situation because, hey, can't die!" She hits him again, just for the principle of the thing.

"I have, I think, always been crazy."

Well, almost always.

"And possibly she is not so much a coward as that."

One can hope, anyway.

And if she is, Raven will teach her not to be.

He is good at it.

Then he laughs.

"Also I am good at plaguing people, yes?"

"Last I heard, usin' good tactical judgment isn't the same as cowardice." She points out, wryly. She'd be stupid t'not bring this up with the bosses, an' no plaguin' people." She orders.

Honestly. It's like he's two.

Raven snorts.

Loudly.

"You are very young, too."

He leans over to ruffle her hair.

"It is not so bad."

He is ignoring any orders about plaguing.

This is better for all their sakes.

Or--someone's sake, anyway.

Raven, here's a hint - your sister does not want hair-ruffling when she's mad.

He totally earned the smack upside the head she's delivering, here.

"Brat. Don't you ever grow up?"

"Yes."

Raven rubs the side of his head where Ace hit him.

"And also no."

His head tilts a little more.

"It is a thing."

Ace looks deeply skeptical, but refrains from continuing to beat on her brother.
"You still owe me for the lecture, featherbutt." She huffs. "All about the dangers of Tricksters, like I don't already know."

Raven wrinkles his nose.

It, like his name, is very descriptive.

"There is not much important in that, I do not think?"

It's not entirely a question.

"Well. Some can cause problems, 'least in my 'verse. Depends on who they've caught. You worried her quite a bit, y'know." She points out wryly. "Not nice."

Raven just looks at her.

"I am, I think, not so much for catching."

He pauses, half-grinning.

"Or nice."

"How's about bein' nice to y'sister, y'for that, or are y'just a right bastard all around?" She asks, perching on the edge of his bed (since the rest is mysteriously wet).

Raven is more serious than usual, at least for the moment.

"I do what I can, I think."

He shrugs, shifting his position to sit on the damp bed.

It is hard for him to get more water-logged, at the moment.

"Possibly sometimes it is enough?"

"Yeah. It is." She leans against him, gingerly.

He's wet. It's not fun to cuddle with wet.

"Y'still a daft idiot."

The wet is all her fault.

She can suffer.

He leans back, pauses, then carefully removes his coat.

His shirt is a lot less damp.

Then he tugs her closer.

"That is not so much a thing that changes."

She squirms. 'Less damp' does not equal dry.
"Yeah, I can see that, Adobebutt. Leggo!"

It is entirely possible that Raven makes her squirm more by poking her in the side.

Twice.

"No."

Raven sucks. She makes a grab for his pillow, the better to thump him over the head with.

Raven is shocked and appalled.

And perhaps attempting to engulf Ace in a hug, so that she can become even more damp.

Either that or he will bury her in the wet blankets.

It is not, it is utterly unjust, and she'll fight to the bitter (and somewhat soggy) end.

He sucks by being bigger than her. He sucks in other ways too, but this is the most important right now.

He attempts to sound very serious.

Very, very serious.

It's entirely possible he fails.

Clearly he is a terrible brother.

Yup, the very worst.

This completely fails to explain why she loves him to pieces.

That's alright. She'd probably come up with very little if asked to explain the whys and wherefors anyway.
