"Ace..." The Doctor eyes the electronics board in front of him warily. "Time to go to plan B."
"Run?"
"Run." She doesn't need to be told twice, haring back towards the TARDIS as if the hounds of hell are at her heels. Considering how the day has gone, that option is entirely possible. She can hear the Doctor behind her, and behind him... she resists the urge to keep checking over her shoulder to see if the destruction set in motion is catching up yet. She still can't believe the Master had actually done it, though world (or in this case, base) destruction is decidedly his forte. He had sent the order for the nuclear warhead launch, even after the Doctor attempted to talk him down. There is nothing left to do here - just get away before the explosions start. Those rockets would never leave the bays... Ace had quite effectively seen to that. There is no one left on the base alive besides the insane Master, the Doctor, and Ace, mostly due to the Doctor's rather persuasive arguments some days before.
There! She sprints around the corner at full tilt, slamming up against the TARDIS, trying to catch her breath as the Doctor unlocks the door, and they both rush inside. Ace slumps onto the couch as the Doctor starts up the TARDIS. The door slides shut silently behind them, sealing them off from the starbase and letting them both breathe a little easier. The console hums, and with a shuddering start the column begins to move, accompannied with the unnatural noise of the TARDIS launching into flight. It fades, slowly, and as the TARDIS stabilizes into flight the Doctor and Ace grin at each other, slightly giddy with their close shave.
"Doctor, next time, could we..." Ace's teasing complaint is cut off as the TARDIS shudders and the lights die. Almost immediately the emergency lights come up, illuminating the coumn moving erratically, the gauges all dead. They're flying blind, and limping badly.
"The Master." The Doctor sounds grim, betrayed. "He sabotaged the TARDIS." Ace is rather shocked that the Doctor does not sound at all surprised, and wonders when he was going to get around to letting her know about this potential complication.
"No problem, no problem at all, I'll just initiate an emergency landing..." he slams a fist down onto one of the unresponsive panals, causing a secondary board to pop up. This one appears to be working, from what Ace can see as she watches over his shoulder. The Doctor is rambling on about how it will be alright now, he just needs to enter the codes, and they'll be fine... when suddenly this board locks up as well, and a cold, calculating laugh fills the control room.
"Did you think you could escape me, Doctor? Save your puny human companion, perhaps? No. Just as you have been my destruction, I will be yours. Goodbye, Doctor. For the last time."

The cloister bell starts to ring.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The TARDIS is pulling itself apart, unable to withstand the stresses of the time vortex without the critical components the Master removed. However, it was designed and built by a people who understood (and sometimes counted on) Murphy's Law. The fail-safes built into the complex machine kick in as it begins to lose system integrety.
The TARDIS is a smart machine, nearly (or perhaps is) sentient in its own right. It snaps out of the vortex, appearing at random in an unkown time, luckily deep in space and not in the middle of a planet or a star. It knows one of its passengers will be able to survive, at least for short-term, here. The other...
Rapid scanning shows no planets, hospitable or otherwise, close enough for the human passenger to be sent to. There is only one option left - and it has made the link before.
